It can be a tricky prospect taking an animated series and scaling it up for cinema screens – especially one as quirky as Bob's Burgers. But the team behind the show, including creator Loren Bouchard, is giving it a shot. Check out the first trailer for The Bob's Burgers Movie.

The ever-frustrated Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) and his clan are facing a typically odd situation – a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob's Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda (John Roberts) struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family's restaurant. As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.

Bob's voice cast also includes Kristen Schaal, Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman, Larry Murphy, Zach Galifianakis, Kevin Kline and David Wain. With Bouchard co-directing (with Bernard Derriman) and co-writing (with Nora Smith), the film will be out in the US and UK on 27 May. We predict musical numbers, madness and plenty of emotion.
