Blake Lively regrets going into the water in the first trailer for The Shallows

Blake Lively in The Shallows

Have we learned nothing from Jaws? Deep Blue Sea? Open Water? Or any of a number of films about the danger of spending time with finned fiends in the sea? Clearly Blake Lively's character in The Shallows hasn't, as she's now trapped with a shark circling in the first trailer.

Lively here plays Mia, a young woman dealing with the recent loss of her mother. When she decides to drown her sorrows (well, surf them) by taking to the water with her board on an isolated beach, she soon starts to regret her choice and she ends up stranded far from the shore... And there's a huge Great White shark scything through the water, figuring that she would make a tasty meal.

Jaume Collet-Serra has directed the survival thriller from Anthony Jaswinski's script, and Lively will no doubt be wishing he'd brought regular collaborator Liam Neeson along for a little wild creature punching action.

With Oscar Jaenada and Sedona Legge in its minimalist cast, The Shallows will float into cinemas on July 1.
