Blade Runner’s sequel is titled Blade Runner 2049

Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard in Blade Runner

We're now a year away from the much-anticipated (and much-puzzled over) sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 classic Blade Runner. Many of the details are still under wraps, but at least it's no longer untitled: the film is called Blade Runner 2049.

Which makes sense, since the movie is apparently set several (the title makes it three, since the original takes place in 2019) decades after Scott's film. Harrison Ford is back as Rick Deckard, and the world he inhabits has just gotten worse, with environmental catastrophe plaguing humanity.

Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Carla Juri, Barkhad Abdi and Dave Bautista are also among the cast, with Sicario and Arrival's Denis Villeneuve calling the shots.

Also part of the press release? This informal image of Villeneuve, Scott, Ford and Gosling apparently hanging out. On set? Maybe, but that would then lead us to believe that Gosling is playing a lumberjack replicant.

Blade Runner 2049 will be out on 6 October next year.
