There was a new contender for the US Box Office crown this weekend, but Red Sparrow could only achieve second place thanks to the continued might of Black Panther. Ryan Coogler and Chadwick Boseman's Marvel superhero raked in a further $65.7m, taking its US haul to $501.1m after only 17 days on release. Its worldwide takings are currently just under $900m, meaning the magic billion can't be far off. Roaring up Marvel's own charts, it's now second only to Avengers Assemble on their roster, having overtaken Age Of Ultron, Iron Man 3 and Civil War since last week.
Red Sparrow, the aforementioned spy thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence, managed a respectable $17m in the US and $43.5m globally: pretty much comparable to other Lawrence films (not including the Hunger Games franchise) like Passengers and Joy. Considering the R-rating that's not a bad result at all.
The week's other new release was Eli Roth's remake of the vigilante "classic" Death Wish: delayed from last November due to the shootings in Las Vegas. Bruce Willis stars in the Charles Bronson role, and managed to bring in $13m.
The rest of the chart sees Game Night with $10.7m; Peter Rabbit with $10m (now much more successful in the US than Paddington 2); Annihilation with $5.6m (we get that one straight to Netflix in the UK on 12 March); Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle with $4.5m; Fifty Shades Freed with $3.3m; The Greatest Showman with $2.6m; and teen fantasy drama Every Day with $1.5m.
