Daldry's movie sweeps the board

As plaudits come in thick and fast for Billy Elliot, the nominations announced today for the third British Independent Film Awards give an indication as to how the movie may fare in next year's awards ceremonies. The film, which many are claiming to be one of the best British movies ever, swept the board with a total of five nominations in the awards, beating Saving Grace, The Last Resort and Going Off Big Time. In addition to being in the Best Film category, the movie also garnered nominations for director Stephen Daldry and screenwriter Lee Hall while Julie Walters and youngster Jamie Bell are both nominated for acting awards.
