It has been seven years since Benh Zeitlin won awards with his stylish, affecting full-length movie debut Beasts Of The Southern Wild, and it'll be eight before his proper return to cinema hits next year. But it's good to know he's back, and the first images from his latest, Wendy, are now online.

For this new film, Zeitlin has reimagined the story of Peter Pan from the point of view of its female lead. As the synopsis reads, "Lost on a mysterious island where aging and time have come unglued, Wendy must fight to save her family, her freedom, and the joyous spirit of young from the deadly peril of growing up."

Wendy (2020)

It's good to see Zeitlin return; while he's worked on other projects in a variety of capacities in the intervening years, he hasn't directed anything or chosen big jobs in the wake of his initial success. Which means Wendy is that much more anticipated.

The drama will be out in the US on 28 February next year, though it's still simply listed as Coming Soon here.
