Team Robopocalypse – led by the part-man-part-android-all-directing machine that is Steven Spielberg – appears to be in full-on cast hunting mode, with Chris Hemsworth already in negotiations and Anne Hathaway mulling an offer. Today brings word that Skyfall’s Ben Whishaw is also being sought to play one of the leads.

According to Variety, Whishaw has not yet received his own offer, but that he’s at the top of DreamWorks’ list to play the hacker character known as Lurker.

The London-based tech troublemaker is one of the bigger strands in Daniel H. Wilson’s narrative, as he catches the electronic eye of artificial intelligence Archos. When the machine brain starts to turn robots against their human masters, he’s a key part of the fightback.

Drew 'Cabin In The Woods' Goddard has written the adaptation and Spielberg will be kicking off the shoot once his press rounds for Lincoln are complete. The film will be out in April 2014.

Whishaw will get his fill of gadgets for now as Q in Skyfall and he’s also part of Cloud Atla****s's sprawling ensemble cast, set to touch down here on February 22.
