Were you to be playing a drinking game based on Stephen King's work being adapted into movies and TV shows, you'd be dead from alcohol poisoning a long time ago. And yet another of his novels is on its way to screens, this way via HBO, with Ben Mendelsohn starring in The Outsider.

Published just this year by King, The Outsider finds a seemingly straightforward murder investigation turning into something quite different, as supernatural forces lurk and the unorthodox investigating officer has to question everything they perceive to be real. We're assuming Mendelsohn will play the cop, which would mark a change from his run of big screen villains.

Jason Bateman, who has been adding to his small screen, behind-the-scenes presence with Netflix's Ozark, will direct the first two episodes of the series and executive produce (though unlike that show, he's not apparently starring). There's no word on when it might hit our tellies, but Mendelsohn is now on cinema screens in Robin Hood and is part of the cast for Captain Marvel, due on 8 March.
