Bekmambetov Finds Witch Hunter

Second mention of Priest today: Cory Goodman, the writer of the vampire western, has sold a six-figure pitch to Summit Entertainment (the Twilight guys) for The Last Witch Hunter. Night Watch and Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov is attached to at least produce, and make take up the reigns himself.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the script, which has "franchise potential" revolves around the last witch hunter on Earth (the clue's in the title), who suddenly has his hands full following an alarming surge in the opposition's numbers.

What with Season of the Witch (where's that gone?), Hansel and Gretal: Witch Hunters (no, really), and, sort of, Solomon Kane, there's a lot of this about at the moment. But Bekmambetov's involvement, especially if he's behind the camera, does at least suggest a good dose of spectacle. Maybe we'll see a horse and cart driving up the outside of a castle, or our hero taking out a tricky warlock by bending his crossbow bolts. Or something. Just as long as it's nothing at all like Van Helsing, okay Timur? Promise?
