If you thought Begbie was the most terrifying example of a psychotic hell bent on destruction and violence, then prepare yourself. It's only going to get worse. The literary world's hard man, Irvine Welsh, is planning to top his Trainspotting nutter in a new film about the infamous hooligans of Cardiff City FC, known as the 'Soul Crew'. Not the nicest chaps in the world, these lovely fellas decided to brand themselves the 'Soul Crew' after marauding around the country in the 1980s and making themselves the locals' favourites by arranging one or two riots to liven things up a little. Their most recent finest hour came in May after eight fans were jailed after violence outside the Cardiff City ground, Ninian Park. In what will be his third big screen outing, Welsh will adapt a book written by two of the delightful souls themselves which, according to the authors, apparently offers a true-life portrayal of football violence and lifts the lid on the hardcore at the heart of the gang which proudly describes itself as one of Britain's 'premiere mobs'. To make you all the more worried, the movie will also see Welsh teaming up once more with Begbie himself, Robert Carlyle, whose production company 4Way Pictures has nabbed the rights to the general anarchy and bloodshed for a reportedly five figure sum. One to go down well with families and rom-com chicks at Christmas time, then.
