Beckham’s Brit Hit

British film company Helkon SK looks like it's got a huge Brit hit on its hands following a recent screening of Bend It Like Beckham. Directed by Gurinder Chadha of Bhaji On The Beach fame, the film tells the story of two female footballers who both fall for their coach (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Such was the 'rapturous reception, from a screening a few weeks ago, reports ScreenDaily, that the company is planning to release the film in the UK on a massive 430 prints (the same number as, say, Ocean's 11). They're then hoping that the film does so well in the UK that word of mouth helps it cross the Atlantic to do a Full Monty over there. Good word of mouth should also help the filmmakers persuade David Beckham to film a cameo for the movie. The film currently features a Beckham lookalike, but negotiations are underway to persuade the England Captain to appear in person.
