Ever felt that fairy tales could do with more serial killers and fewer, well, fairies? Take a look at the first trailer for Beast, a festival-favourite new British thriller that fuses Grimm themes into a dark and visually striking drama.

The over-protected princess is Moll, a 27 year-old woman living in an isolated island community, hemmed in by her family. Her horizons are expanded when she meets Pascal, a gun-toting bearded wanderer who can offer her an escape from the everyday. The bad news? He may be a serial killer behind the unsolved murders of several young women. We've got an exclusive look at the first trailer.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Michael Pearce, with Jessie Buckley (previously seen in TV series including Tom Hardy’s Taboo and the BBC’s War and Peace) taking on the lead role. Opposite her is Johnny Flynn — he of folk music and Clouds of Sils Maria fame — as Pascal.

Beast has already earned early acclaim at the London Film Festival, TIFF and Sundance, and audiences will get to see it when it hits UK cinemas on 27 April.
