The decision has finally been made. After weeks of consideration and soul-searching, Chris Nolan has selected Christian Bale to inherit the mantle of the Dark Knight. Following in the footsteps of Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney, Bale will star as Batman in Nolan's chronicle of the Caped Crusader's early years. "What I see in Christian is the ultimate embodiment of Bruce Wayne," said Nolan. "He has exactly the balance of darkness and light that we were looking for." This news should certainly please all of you since it was Bale who topped our pole of people you'd most like to see prowling Gotham's rooftops. Jake Gyllenhaal came a close second followed by Cillian Murphy, but it was Bale who pulled ahead of the pack with the majority of votes. Truth be told we have to agree with you, Bale is by far and away the best choice. Anyone who saw him kick arse with an abundance of spectacle in Kurt Wimmer's vastly underrated Equilibrium will know exactly what we're talking about. If there's any justice in the world, Nolan's project will make Bale the star that he deserves to be.
