Don’t say we didn’t warn you. Back in 2003, we told you of Training Day writer David Ayer’s plan to write and direct a modern-day update of The Wild Bunch. You can read all about it here.

After a boil in development hell, the film now has a greenlight from Warner Brothers and producer Jerry Weintraub, primarily thanks to Ayer’s work on upcoming Christian Bale cop drama Harsh Times.

Producer Jerry Weintraub is handling the film, and seems confident in Ayer’s abilities: “After I saw his movie Harsh Times, I fell in love with his directing. He's a wonderful writer, and we thought he should direct his own script,” Weintraub said. “He can handle this. I think all the actors in town will want to work with him because he's s got 'the stuff.' He's the real thing.”

The jury’s still out on this one.
