Thanos might claim he's inevitable, but he's got some tough competition – and we don't mean the Avengers. The box office behemoth that is Avengers: Endgame continued to roll on and more records were broken in its wake as the film crossed $2 billion worldwide in just 11 days, snatching up $145.8 million at the Stateside box office this weekend, according to studio estimates.

That puts it a little behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens in terms of second weekend results, but bear in mind we're still at the estimates stage – the full results could tell a different story. Regardless, Endgame has now become the ninth largest domestic release of all time in the US (in 10 days of release) and is the second-biggest global success story, with just Avatar in its sights.

The movie's success rather left the brave souls entering the movie marketplace picking up the scraps. Second place went to The Intruder, with the thriller earning $11 million. That was roughly in line with predictions, whereas rom-com Long Shot, which has been winning praise, ended up a disappointment in its first weekend, taking home $10 million.

In terms of hopes for results (and in this case, a potential franchise), Ugly Dolls was the biggest loser, launching in fourth to just $8.5 million. Produced for around $45 million, it has less ground to make up than some other animated movies, but that initial figure does not bode well for the future.

Captain Marvel shed some screens and saw its Endgame bounce fade, but still made $4.2 million despite spending nine weeks in the charts. Its US total now stands at $420.7 million. Breakthrough fell to sixth on $3.9 million, while The Curse Of La Llorona slipped to seventh and $3.5 million. Shazam! was eighth with $2.4 million, and Little tumbled a couple of places to ninth via $1.47 million. At 10th we find Dumbo, which rustled up $1.43 million.
