As opposed to some of the more arthouse-focused awards ceremonies, the Critics Choice Awards in the States throw open their categories, allowing a much wider list of nominees. Which means you see the likes of Fantastic Beasts and Doctor Strange rubbing shoulders (though not categories) with more awards bait fare such as La La Land and Lion.
As usual, there are some nice inclusions (glad to see Sing Street properly in a category at last, and we're happy to see both Marvel and DC getting some recognition), and bad news for the movies you know aren't likely to show up anywhere beyond effects categories (apologies to Ben-Hur and Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles: Out Of The Shadows.)
