Arctic - exclusive

Whether he’s designing Death Stars, battling Bond at the poker table, or flinging Doctor Strange through multiple dimensions, Mads Mikkelsen is a cooler than cool screen presence – he’s ice cold. And never moreso than in his latest outing Arctic, a survival thriller which finds the star stranded in a frozen wilderness, fending off the cold, the isolation, and the occasional polar bear. It’s a gripping piece of work from writer-director Joe Penna, which earned plaudits at Cannes and the London Film Festival last year, and is now gearing up for a UK release. Empire has an exclusive clip to whet your appetite, showing a close encounter Mikkelsen’s Overgård has with a passing helicopter – can he attract its attention before it flies away? And if he can, will it mean his salvation?

And take a look at the UK poster here:

For more of Mikkelsen at his best – putting in a gripping performance with minimal dialogue, on what he describes as the most difficult shoot of his career – you can catch Arctic in cinemas and on digital HD from 10 May.
