Aquaman continued to rule at the Stateside box office and elsewhere, becoming the most successful DCEU movie this weekend around the world. In the US, it earned $30.7 million, according to studio estimates.

The only film brave enough to challenge the champ this weekend was new thriller Escape Room, which was a surprising success, earning $18 million in its opening weekend off the back of a $9 million production budget. It arrived second, knocking Mary Poppins Returns down to third, where the sequel took in $15.7 million for a $138.7 million running total.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse clung to fourth, making $13 million and crossing the $130 million mark domestically. Bumblebee fell from third to fifth, adding $12.7 million. Internationally, it also did well from a successful opening in China.

Sixth was The Mule, as Clint Eastwood's latest notched up $9 million, while awards contender Vice took home $5.8 million. Second Act stayed eighth on $4.9 million, with Ralph Breaks The Internet sticking around at ninth thanks to a $4.6 million haul. Holmes And Watson, meanwhile, sank again, dropping from seventh to 10th place and has only made $28.4 million domestically to date.
