Paranormal Astronaut-ivity, anyone?

Apollo 18 Trailer Goes Live

What if NASA had a dark little secret squatting in its history that could explain just why – aside from lack of funding – mankind had not returned to the moon after 17 Apollo missions? What if that secret included the fact that there was indeed an 18th mission, but what the astronauts discovered was something terrible? That’s the subject of Apollo 18, the latest horror thriller to land on the found footage bandwagon, and which has just beamed a trailer on to the web.

Timur Bekmambetov spearheaded this one, looking to get the film shot quickly and cheaply (it kicked off production in mid-November, if you can believe that), and despite one blip – switching directors from Trevor Cawood to King of the Hill’s Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego shortly before shooting – it appears to have gone smoothly.

To keep up the idea that this is actual footage recovered from the ill-fated lunar landing, the cast is comprised of new faces and lots of handicam shots, with just a little extra alien creepiness thrown in for good measure.

Check out the trailer over at Apple and let us know whether it makes you want to see the movie itself. The film is out on April 22.
