Having serenaded us as a singing cat in Puss In Boots, Antonio Banderas will once again put his vocal chords to good use in a new action comedy entitled Salty.

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Mark Haskell Smith, Salty is being pitched as The Hangover meets Spinal Tap, with Banderas playing a veteran rocker Turk Henry who takes his wife on a luxury holiday. When she gets kidnapped, Turk must then embark on an unlikely rescue mission.

Largely set in South America, filming is due to kick off in Chile this summer.

It was partly funded by SyndicateRoom, a Kickstarter-style crowdfunding platform that offers equity, rather than rewards, and will be opened up to distributors at Cannes Film Festival, which begins this week.

"Finally,” Banderas told The Hollywood Reporter, “three of my passions together: cinema, music and humour."

Simon West, the director behind Con Air and The Expendables 2 will be directing this one. We can therefore presume there will be explosions.
