He’s not Marvel’s biggest hero in any sense of the word, but Ant-Man’s next adventure is scaling up to be a huge amount of fun. The first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp has arrived, and it looks like two heroes will be even better than one.

Peyton Reed is helming the sequel having stepped in at the last minute to shoot the first film when Edgar Wright bowed out. Just as the original played around with a sensa of scale, giving us tiny heroes battling on Thomas the Tank Engine, the sequel has huge buildings being shrunk to wheelie suitcase size, and Hello Kitty Pez dispensers blowing up to potentially lethal levels. There’s also a trippy glimpse at some gigantic microbes — will the pair be striking down into the Quantum Realm?

Of course the biggest and most exciting change here is Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne getting to suit up as The Wasp, after only getting to look longingly at the outfit at the end of the first Ant-Man. Not only is she Marvel’s first female character to get (albeit shared) headline billing, but her suit has extra bells and whistles compared to Scott Lang’s — “wings… and blasters”.

There’s also the return of Michael Douglas as older Ant-Man, Dr. Hank Pym, a brief glimpse of Laurence Fishburne’s newcomer Goliath, and Paul Rudd once again riding a flying ant (sadly not Anthony, RIP). With Avengers: Infinity War promising a whole lot of carnage in the MCU’s near future, savor the calm before the storm: Ant-Man and the Wasp should be a knockabout blast.

Ant-Man and the Wasp hits UK cinemas on 3 August.
