Alex Kurtzman already has Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella aboard two of the key roles for his new take on The Mummy. Now he has Peaky Blinders' Annabelle Wallis in talks to join them.

This Mummy represents the first piece in the puzzle for Kurtzman and Chris Morgan's attempt to knit the classic Universal movie monsters into a new connected shared movie universe. Kurtzman is also directing this first film, working from a script by Jon Spaihts which brings the concept and the creature into the present day. Boutella is playing the title character while The Hollywood Reporter has heard that Cruise will be a special forces soldier who is confronted with her. Wallis, assuming she does sign on, will be a scientist.

The actress is on our screens now in Grimsby and has a role in Guy Ritchie's own attempt at building a cinematic universe with classic characters via Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur, which has been pushed back to a 2017 release.
