Ang Lee Plans A Little Game

When it comes to troubled productions, A Little Game has had mroe than its fair share. But things may be on the up for the troubled-production-that-could, with the news that Ang Lee is coming onboard as director.

An adaptation of the French play 'A Little Game Of Consequences', the film was all set to go ahead last year with Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz starring and Gabriele The Pursuit of Happyness Muccino directing, when the stars walked and the plug was pulled, apparently over 'script concerns' (which could mean anything from 'I worry that it's as funny as an appendectomy' to 'I think my character should have blond hair, and by saying he's brunette you're stifling my creativity.' Probably something closer to the former, but you never can tell with these Hollywood types - they sure do love their hair).

James Schamus, who's both the studio co-chair of Focus Features trying to get the project off the ground and a longtime screenwriting collaborator of Lee, is rewriting the script now to allay those concerns. The story follows a happily engaged couple who decide to pretend to break up, as a prank to play on their friends - only to discover that everyone they know thinks that they were horribly mismatched.

The film is likely to be Lee's next-but-one, after the upcoming Shanghai-set World War II epic **Lust, Caution, **also with Focus. There's no word yet on whether either lead will return, but with Ang Lee onboard, they shouldn't have trouble finding stars.
