In a weird twist, both Book Of Eli directors Albert and Allen Hughes are working on movies with “City” in their title. Allen is busy bringing Broken City to life with Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe starring and now Albert has locked down another cast member for his film, Motor City. Deadline brings word that Amber Heard has snagged the female lead.

Heard, who last appeared in The Rum Diary opposite Johnny Depp, will join Dominic Cooper in the tale of a man who gets out of prison and heads out on a revenge quest against those that framed him and saw him put away.

With Joel Silver producing, Hughes is directing Chad St. John’s script, which landed on the Black List of the best unproduced screenplays back in 2009. It’s been in development for a while now, with Chris Evans originally offered the lead before it went to Cooper. There’s no word on when the film will actually start shooting.

Cooper will be on screen this week in My Week With Marilyn and then in next year’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Heard has slacker comedy/drama Syrup inching through post-production for release some time in 2012.
