La La Land director Damien Chazelle is returning to musical territory – and jazz in particular – for his Netlix TV series The Eddy. The cast coming together, with Andre Holland starring and now Amandla Stenberg on board.

The series is set in Paris and revolves around a jazz club, the house band and the chaotic city that surrounds them. Holland will play Elliot Udo, who was a celebrated jazz pianist in New York, but has moved to Paris and is now the part-owner of a failing jazz club. He has an on-again off-again relationship with his lead singer, but is emotionally stunted and is hiding from everyone. When his 15-year-old daughter shows up suddenly, Elliot has to face his weakness and learn to grow up. Stenberg is playing Julie, the daughter, who has her own musical abilities.

Chazelle dreamt up the idea, with Jack Thorne writing the script for the series and Alan Poul and Houda Benyamina joining the La La Land man in directing episodes. Grammy winner Glen Ballard has written the music, and the cameras will be rolling soon in France. Netflix should have the first season on screens next year.
