Maverick director Robert Altman is setting his sights on the UK next, as he comes to London next year to shoot The Tortoise and the Hare, based on a screenplay by Andrew Davies.

Emma Thompson is currently in talks to join what will no doubt be an ensemble cast, in what we're guessing is not a fable about two animals in a race.

Producer Alan Ladd Jr. said of the film, "It's a relationship movie. There are four major parts and a couple of other very good parts, but it's not a big ensemble like Gosford Park."

Altman is currently finishing off A Prairie Home Companion, and is also due to make Paint, about the backstabbing world of the New York gallery scene, with Salma Hayek, James Franco and Glenn Close.
