We’ve known for a while that Atonement’s Saoirse Ronan was attached to star in Geoffrey Fletcher’s tale of teenage killers, Violet and Daisy, and now we have confirmation that she’s signed on. But her co-hit girl will not be Carey Mulligan as previously rumoured: Alexis Bledel has joined the cast instead.

Fletcher, who last wrote the script for Precious: Based on the novel Push by Sapphire has this time generated an original screenplay that he’ll direct starting next week in New York.

Violet and Daisy follows the pair of assassins as they take on what is promised to be just another routine kill. But then they discover that the man they’ve been sent to off is not exactly what they expected.

Gandolfini will, we assume, be the target, but Variety’s report doesn’t make any mention of either Bruce Willis or Danny Trejo, both of whom were rumoured to be up for roles. But who knows? They could still crop up since the film hasn’t shot a frame of footage yet. In the mean time, how do you feel about Bledel (29) still playing a teeager? Has her performance as Rory in the Gilmore Girls doomed her to play a teen forever? She's great and all as a teen, but won't someone give this girl a grown-up part already?
