The Mel Gibson / Julia Roberts starrer Conspiracy Theory narrowly beat Harrison Ford's thriller Air Force One to claim the No. 1 position in the US in its first days of release over the weekend. The Richard Donner-directed movie took an estimated $19.4 million in three days, compared to Air Force's $18.2 million. It apparently played well to people over twenty-five, and 55% of the audience were female. Now why would that be? Such favour was not found with another new release, Free Willy 3: The Rescue, which was rather a beached whale with takings of just $1.0 million.
