Murphy and Rock together at last – but heist drama or comedy?

Eddie Murphy had an idea for a vehicle to star himself and Chris Rock. And, being the A-lister he is, that dream has come to fruition, thanks to a kickstart from his producer friend Brian Grazer. But if this is a turn away from convention for both of them, it hasn't been advertised very well. In what trade magazine Variety have described in one sentence as a drama, and a comedy in the next (we're putting our money with the latter), the story is about two working class guys who attempt the perfect heist. Now, admittedly, neither of them are getting any younger, and in recent years we've seen them both steer away from the edgy standup routines that made them famous, into fully-fledged U-rated fare. Not that there's anything wrong with that - with the exception of Daddy Day Care
