When Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones last teamed up on screen together in The Theory Of Everything, playing Stephen Hawking and his former partner Jane Wilde Hawking respectively, it proved awards gold. Redmayne bagged an Oscar and a BAFTA, Jones received nominations at both ceremonies, and both of their careers took a major boost. Now they’re back together in The Aeronauts, a biographical drama set in the 19th century, as a duo attempting to push the boundaries of exploration in a record-breaking hot air balloon feat. The film’s first trailer has just blown online.

Directed by Wild Rose’s Tom Harper, The Aeronauts takes place in 1862 and casts Redmayne as James Glaisher, a scientist who teams up with Felicity Jones’ young widow Amelia Wren to try and fly higher than anyone has ever flown before. Along the way they battle the elements – hey, hot air balloons aren’t known for being warm or waterproof – and considerable peril. The film is written by Jack Thorne, and also stars the likes of Tom Courtenay and Yesterday’s Himesh Patel.

The film will receive its global debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on 8 September, and is due to play the London Film Festival on 7 October. Its main UK release will begin from 6 November, and will include IMAX screenings to maximise those epic balloon shots
