Adam Shankman May Activate The Machine

Everybody prepare to get happy, because it looks like the team who made The Pacifier might be getting back together! No, wait… come back! It is true, however: MGM is talking to director Adam Shankman about taking over Vin Diesel family action comedy The Machin****e.

Originally touted in 2011, the ‘80s-throwback-in-all-but-star finds Diesel as a humanoid robot developed as the ultimate weapon by the US government. After the project was decommissioned, the Vin-bot was put into dusty storage for 20 years until accidentally reactivated by a young boy. The two become friends and Vin moves in with the family. But then the mean ol’ government decides that they need the weapon back and our hero must protect his new charges.

Night At The Museum duo Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant dreamt up the concept and wrote the original script, which has since seen a polish from Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Shankman, who last made Rock Of Ages, may end up taking over the project after Peter Segal flirted with the idea but ultimately passed on the job. Can’t wait for the Diesel-powered Facebook updates from this one…
