The cameras are officially rolling – incredibly slowly and incrementally – on Early Man, the latest film from Bristol-based animation wunderkinds Aardman. And a new teaser has been debuted to mark the occasion.

The 16-second video, the first character animation we’ve seen from the project, features Dug the caveman and his trusty sidekick Hognob, who appears to be some sort of furry prehistoric warthog, plus a somewhat more fearsome foe.

Nick Park, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Wallace & Gromit, Creature Comforts and Chicken Run is back in the director’s chair for this one, which is set at the dawn of time.

Fellow Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne will be lending his voice (presumably mostly grunts and guttural noises) to Dug, a caveman who “unites his tribe against the mighty Bronze Age”. We have been promised further casting announcements in the coming weeks.

Expect the usual marriage of wittily eccentric British humour and wholly hand-crafted stop-motion animation when Early Man arrives in cinemas on 26 January, 2018.
