Fast & Furious 9 Has A New Writer In Daniel Casey

Get ready for a gear change in the Fast & Furious franchise. With regular writer Chris Morgan busy scripting and producing the Dwayne Johnson/Jason Statham-focused spin-off, Daniel Casey has won the job of writing Fast & Furious 9.

While we worry that this could cause yet more ruptures between the "family" off-screen (the existence of the spin-off has already caused at least two feuds), Universal is naturally eager to go pedal to the metal on extending the wildly successful franchise. But Chris Morgan is only one man, and he can dream up only so many ways for vehicles to ignore the laws of physics, reasons for street racing to influence plot and manly bonding between quips. And after writing all of the movies since Tokyo Drift, he's entitled to do something else. Even if "something else" is a movie set in the same universe that features pre-existing characters doing similar things to the Fast crew.

Casey has seen his star rise thanks to a few projects, including upcoming sci-fi thriller Kin (due out in the States later this year) and new superhero take The Heavy, which has JJ Abrams producing. As for Fast & Furious 9, Justin Lin is back to direct and the motorised madness is still set for an April 2020 release slot.
