We've already met Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry, AKA Aquaman via his blink-and-miss-it cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and his bigger, but hardly starring role in Justice League. Now we get the chance to see his story, digging into his past and peering into his potential future. The first full trailer for Aquaman has landed.

James Wan is in the director's chair, and he's got the unenviable task of both legitimizing a character often seen as a punchline in some comics and animated series, bringing more of a Wonder Woman feel to the DCEU and also crafting an epic adventure.

The footage screened at this year's San Diego Comic-Con as part of the Warner Bros. panel showed off more than the trailer does, including extended interplay between Arthur and Amber Heard's more serious Mera as they embark on a mission to save Atlantis and the world above from the ambitions of Arthur's half-brother Prince Orm (Patrick Wilson). There were also further glimpses of Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Arthur's Atlantean mother and his human father Thomas, played by Temuera Morrison.

Also stepping more into the spotlight was another threat, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who has his own reasons for hating Arthur and some nifty tech to take him on.

Whether Aquaman as a whole can live up to the weight on its watery shoulders remains to be seen, but the film will arrive on 14 December.
