While its always good to sample what life is like on the other side of the gaming divide, certain titles should never make the transition from PC to console. Not surprisingly, Civilization is one of them.
While Revolution is one of the most complex games on the next gen consoles - its cerebral strategy offering a fresh experience amongst the myriad World War II blasters and football games cluttering the shelves - its the games bewildering pace that feels broken; while in the PC game you can spend generations building and evolving your civilization, the console edition focuses heavily on combat rather than diplomacy and trade, making for a faster, less considered approach to the action that doesnt exactly feel dumb, but is less subtle than its forebears.
Revolutions multiplayer mode, on the other hand, is perfectly suited to the faster pace of console gaming, allowing you to challenge friends and reach a quick conclusion, rather than becoming embroiled in a tangle of confusing sub-menus. But if its an authentic Civilization experience youre after, this boiled down version will leave you cold.
