Hellboy: The Science Of Evil

Like most lethargic spin-offs, the action in this misguided romp sees Hellboy battling through a legion of Identikit enemies, in turn opening a gateway to the next challenge, which sees him battling through a legion of Identikit enemies, in turn opening a gateway to the next challenge, which sees him battling… oh, you get the idea.

But mind-crushing repetition and tedious combat aside, these shortcomings are only the tip of iceberg: every enemy you meet can be butchered by pounding a single button, never capturing the immense power of the scarlet antihero; the entire game is viewed from a fixed camera angle, making it impossible to target enemies in tight spaces; and the graphics are offensively poor throughout, with the visuals often grinding to a standstill when a lot is happening on screen, or scrapping characters clipping right through each other during combat.

Worst of all, though, is the confounding plot, a story that will make no sense to even the most hardened Hellboy fan, and is particularly bad in the co-operative mode where your partner in crime doesn’t even appear in the movie cut-scenes. In summary: vile, unmitigated trash.
