2010's hit Danish comedy Klown feels like something Sacha Baron Cohen would be attracted to – out there situations, awkwardness levels set to high and a sprinkling of gross-out humour. He's been circling a remake for a while, and has now landed support from production company Annapurna.
Klown, which was released in the UK in 2013, follows Frank (Frank Hvam) and Casper (Casper Christensen), two slackers who would rather have fun than face any sort of responsibility. But when Frank's girlfriend falls pregnant, he becomes determined to prove he's fatherhood material. Unfortunately, the method he chooses involves whisking her 12-year-old nephew away on the boys' annual weekend canoe trip, and exposing him to things no child should see.
Cohen has long been a fan of the film, and its sequel, which saw Frank and Casper head for Los Angeles, featured his wife, Isla Fisher. Now Cohen and fellow producers Megan Ellison, Todd Schulman and Scott Stuber will be looking to find buyers for the movie as part of the American Film Market, before rounding up other filmmakers to get to work on the new movie.
Cohen was last seen in Alice Through The Looking Glass, and while he has a few projects in development, he hasn't committed to anything yet.
