World War II is an endless source of film and TV fodder and there are several projects headed our way this year, including Dunkirk and two Winston Churchill dramas. Now Ridley Scott is aiming to get in on the action, targeting a movie set during the Battle Of Britain.
Though you might think that Scott had plenty on his To Do list already between various planned Alien films and his next gig, kidnapping drama All The Money In The World, Deadline reports that he's eager to add this one to his folder of potential projects. And given his recent output rate, there's every chance he could get around to it.
Matthew Orton, who most recently worked on Nazi-hunting script Operation Finale (which just landed Oscar Isaac to star), sold the basic pitch to 20th Century Fox and Scott last year and has been developing the idea with his screenwriting mentor, Matt Charman. If it does develop into a movie, it'll mark the first time a film has focused on the fight for a few years, looking to chronicle how Britain's RAF fought Germany's Luftwaffe for air superiority, resulting in one of the major victories for the allies in the conflict.
As for this year's offerings, Scott's latest extraterrestrial horror Alien: Covenant is due here on 12 May.
