He's been busy working on small screen projects of late, but writer/director John Ridley has his eye on a new science fiction movie. He's on board to make an adaptation of Robert Silverberg's short story Needle In A Timestack.

No, that's not a typo; Timestack focuses on a world where time travel, or "phasing" has been happening for years. Unfortunately for those who live there – including married couple Mikkelsen and Janine – that means your world can change on a daily basis. And a man named Tommy Hambleton is trying to split them up. It's up to Mikkelsen to figure out what has changed...

Ridley, who won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for 12 Years A Slave, is attached to write and direct the film for Miramax. It'll be just another project for him, on top of his sprawling TV empire that includes American Crime and new series Guerrilla, which Idris Elba co-produces and appears in, and which starts tonight on Sky Atlantic.
