Ancient gangster film wisdom teaches us that, “If you go up against that there Mark Strong, mate, you’re gonna get ‘urt.” You would think everybody knows this, but apparently James McAvoy hasn’t learned that lesson as he decides to take him on in Eran Creevy’s Welcome To The Punch. brightcove.createExperiences();Punch finds McAvoy as Max Lewinsky, a police detective determined to take down his criminal nemesis, Jacob Sternwood (Strong). He thinks he sees his chance when Sternwood is forced to return to London when his son is hospitalised following a botched heist.
But that’s just the inciting incident. As Lewinsky gets deeper into the case, he discovers that there’s a much bigger conspiracy at play.
From the looks of this, Creevy and his cast definitely went the stylised route, with slow-mo bullet flinging, plenty of fire and lots of tough bloke stand-offs, particularly between our two leads.
And the cast it stacked with great actors, including David Morrissey, Peter Mullan, Johnny Harris, Andrea Riseborough and Steve Oram.
