Tammy Teaser Trailer Heads Online

Melissa McCarthy knows what works for her in terms of comedy. As Bridesmaids, **The Heat **and (to a lesser extent, reviews-wise) Identity Thief have proved, it’s slightly wacky characters who are still somehow grounded and relatable. It’s territory she’s firmly back on for her latest, Tammy, and the teaser trailer has shown up online.

Tammy finds McCarthy as the title character, a woman whose placid, ordinary life comes tumbling down around her when she’s fired and discovers that her husband has been cheating on her on the same day. Stunned by the revelation, Tammy decides to head off on a road trip with her hard-drinking, potty-mouthed grandmother Pearl (Susan Sarandon).

This first teaser doesn’t show Sarandon, instead focusing on one scene and allowing McCarthy to dominate. Clearly needing some extra cash, Tammy decides to rob a quiet late-night fast food restaurant, and… well, let’s just say she’s not exactly a master criminal. Nor does threatening people appear to come naturally.

Co-written by McCarthy and husband Ben Falcone (who makes his directorial debut and pops up for a small role), Tammy also features Allison Janney, Kathy Bates, Dan Aykroyd and Mark Duplass. It’ll be out in the UK on July 4.
