Ah, Begbie (Robert Carlyle). It's good to see you haven't mellowed with age. The years have not been kind to Trainspotting's infamous psycopath, and as our exclusive new clip from the sequel T2 Trainspotting proves, he's out for vengeful blood. Take a look below – though be warned, there are very minor potential spoilers. (Watch until the end to spot the sly reference to the original film.)

T2 Trainspotting is our massive cover feature in this month's Empire, of course, and in it, Carlyle talks about how emotional the process of returning to the role was. “I was crying,” he tells uss of first reading the script. “I thought, ‘Why the fuck am I crying at this?’” The entire cast and crew were emotional, he says. “Danny felt it. Ewan and Ewen felt it. Jonny, we all felt this real emotional connection to these characters and to this world. But that first read – I was speaking to Ewan McGregor, saying, ‘I cannae believe I’m feeling like this.’ I’ve never cried when I’ve read a screenplay before. Ever.”

Directed once again by Danny Boyle, T2: Trainspotting arrives in UK cinemas on 27 January, ahead of a March US release. Be sure to pick up a copy of the new issue of Empire – on sale now – which has unrivalled coverage on the hugely-anticipated sequel, plus a choice of four rather stylish covers.
