Choose life. Choose Twitter. Choose Facebook. Choose Instagram. Choose taking one minute and 55 seconds away from all that to watch this new trailer for T2 Trainspotting, the freshly re-monickered follow-up to Danny Boyle and Irvine Welsh’s 1996 classic.

Soundtracked by the iconic house beats of Underworld’s Born Slippy and Wolf Alice’s Silk, the trailer reunites Renton (Ewan McGregor), Spud (Ewan Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller) and, 20 years older but not a day less psychotic, Begbie (Robert Carlyle). Oh, and by the looks of things, their old pals heroin and cocaine.

As rumoured, Kelly Macdonald is back and prominent as Renton’s sharp-as-tacks maybe-soulmate Diane. For anyone old enough to remember seeing the original at the cinema – ahem – it's a straight hit of nostalgia, with plenty of the first film’s narcotic dream logic in evidence. We’re quietly relieved they didn’t stick to the Terminator-sounding T2 title, too.

Runs the synopsis: "Mark Renton returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud, Sick Boy, and Begbie. Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance."

Refamiliarise yourself with the gang when T2 Trainspotting 2 arrives in cinemas on 27 January, 2017.
