The tradition of putting short films in front of animated features has come roaring back in recent years thanks to Pixar and Disney adding them to their big releases. We’ve enjoyed the likes of Paperman and now the Mouse House’s latest, Frozen, comes bearing the gift of throwback Mickey Mouse ‘toon **Get A Horse! **

brightcove.createExperiences();Conceived and directed by Simpsons veteran Lauren MacMullan, Get A Horse! sees Mickey (voiced, using the original recordings, by Walt Disney himself), Minnie, friends Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow enjoyed a music-filled wagon ride. That is, until Peg-Leg Pete shows up in his noisy car and tries to run them off the road.

MacMullan came up with the idea after Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore told her Disney was looking for more Mickey content for TV ‘toons. But it soon evolved into an idea for a short that began life as an attempt to recreate the 1928 shorts that MacMullan loved. With new animation augmenting some of the classic soundtrack cues, the short quickly became something much more – something we won’t spoil as we’ve seen this little gem and it’s one you should really watch for yourself. It’ll screen in front of Frozen starting December 6.
