Marvel's attempts to get every single one of its comic book characters on screen or some form or another continues unabated. New Warriors was confirmed in April, and now we know that Milana Vayntrub will be playing Squirrel Girl.
Also known as Doreen Green, Squirrel Girl is a fangirl who happens to have powers of her own... Just ones inspired by, well, you can guess from her name.
She'll be joined in the series by Derek Theler as Craig Hollis/Mister Immortal. He can't die – but that seems to be more spin on his front than anything tangible. And his outlook is that if he has all the time in the world, why bother doing anything heroic in a hurry? Then there's Jeremy Tardy as Dwayne Taylor AKA Night Thrasher. Brilliant, but also a self-promoter, Dwayne is a Tony Stark type who believes in justice and himself. Mostly himself.
Callum Worthy is on to play Robbie Baldwin, also called Speedball. A people pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence, he can throw kinetic balls of energy with little ability to control them. Matthew Moy is playing Zack Smith, who uses the superhero Microbe. He's a hypochondriac with the power to talk to germs and get all the insider information. Literally... Finally, we have Deborah Fields, AKA Debrii (Kate Comer), whose telekinetic power is impressive... if you need someone to move paper cups. But she's also proud, funny and quick-witted.
Kevin Biegel is running the show, and seems happy with his choices: "I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors. They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters. It’ll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them." The series is aiming to launch on the US cable channel Freeform next year.
