All the evil, none of the blood

Green Band Evil Dead Trailer Arrives

If the recent, jaw-dropping red band trailer for **The Evil Dead was a bit much for you, there's now a milder green band version online. This is for people who, for some reason, wish to kid themselves that stuff is not going to go down quite as badly in that cabin in the woods as it first appeared. But be warned: there are still sexually predatory trees and a thing singing at you from under the floor though. Just sayin'.

Obviously, what we've got here is more notable for what isn't included than what is. We've still got glimpses of demons, fire, and that familiar-looking Necronomicon, but the blood's been drained, and nothing bad happens to anyone's tongue.

For once in the world of remakes, there seems to be genuine anticipation for this, with the consensus that it looks as if The Evil Dead v.2012 is going to deliver. What dissent there is generally seems to be based on misapprehension. "But the original is funny," nay the naysayers. Nope. The Evil Dead v.1981 proclaimed itself "the ultimate experience in gruelling terror." While that might not in itself have been intended as deadly serious, while there are funny lines, and while the film ends with a jolly vintage Charleston, it's nothing like the splatstick madness that followed in Evil Dead 2. Go back and check.

There's no Ash this time: Jane Levy is the star, and she's joined by Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci and Elizabeth Blackmore. Original gang Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert are the producers, and have insisted all along that this was a remake worth the making. The director they chose is Fede Alvarez, and the film's out in the UK on April 12.
