The Edinburgh Film Festival today announced the line-up for its new Under The Radar section, which celebrates new directors making films in the spirit of cult movies. The section is part of the revamped festival, which has moved from its usual autumn slot to late June. The films in Under The Radar will be:
– Crack Willow, directed by Martin Raddich, which chronicles the psychological effects of social decay.
– Bigga Than Ben: A Russian's Guide To Ripping Off London. Starring Prince Caspian's Ben Barnes this is a dark comedy that offers a step-by-step guide to defrauding banks, shoplifting, joyriding on the tube and cooking crack cocaine. The film is based on the diaries of Pavel Tetersky and Sergei Sakin.
– Robert Beaucage's Spike, a horror-cum-romance that explores the darker side of fairytale mythology.
– Blood Car, the feature debut of Alex Orr, a dark comedy satire on the global appetite for oil, following a teacher who designs a car that runs on human blood.
– Luciano Podcaminsky's The Third Pint, which is an experimental travlogue shot on Super 8 that follows a man who becomes invisible after drinking three pints.
– Finally, Strange Girls explores the rotten underbelly of female relationships gone wrong through the world of twin sisters with a passion for porn and trepanning who are divided by a handsome suitor.
