Because the studio hasn’t shown enough of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already, the CinemaCon audience was treated to 30 minutes spanning three scenes during Sony’s presentation on Wednesday.
With its release date almost upon us, Spidey was naturally the star of the show, though Sony also confirmed plans for the **Venom **film and a Sinister Six spin-off.
Given that we’d see nothing of it previously, the scene and sizzle reel for The Equalizer, starring Denzel Washington was of more interest, and finds Washington reuniting with his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua for a hard-nosed adaptation of the Edward Woodward series. The scene we saw found Washington putting the hurt on a Russian mob prostitution ring’s boss and his henchman in a swift 28 seconds.
Comedy was represented by Sex Tape, with a batch of moments from the Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel film, and a predictably hilarious look at 22 Jump Street, highlighted by another riff by Channing Tatum. Then we got a look at Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy The Interview, which also promises some reliable laughs.
Things got musical with an extended look at Annie, set to the new version of Hard Knock Life, and American Football tale When The Game Stands Tall, which promises more of an inspirational bent.
Finally, there was a mention of Cameron Crowe’s latest film, though no disclosure as to its title. Chalk that one up, then, as still under wraps, but we’ll bring you more as we get it.
