Bob Odenkirk Celebrates Girlfriend's Day

He’s best known right now as smarmy, sly lawyer Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad, but Bob Odenkirk is planning to both write and star in a new dark comedy called **Girlfriend’s Day.

With **Best Worst Movie **director Michael Paul Stephenson shifting to narrative filmmaking to call the shots, Odenkirk will be greeting-card writer Ray, who spots a real opportunity when his company launches the titular holiday.

He and his colleagues are soon caught up in a messy world of murder and deceit as they compete to craft the perfect card for the new occasion. Yes, if only you knew the backstabbing and bitterness that seethes behind the cute bunny rabbits and bland aphorisms on those cards.

Odenkirk has usually been a supporting man in movies and on TV, so it’ll be nice to see him getting the starring role for once in a while. Stephenson plans to kick off shooting later in the year in Los Angeles. Odenkirk will be back on Breaking Bad for the final season this August (and there has been much talk of a Saul spin-off) and has roles in Sundance hit **The Spectacular Now **and Alexander Payne’s Nebraska, which won plaudits at Cannes.
