One of the films we’ve been eagerly anticipating is Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman (Or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance), which finds Michael Keaton playing a struggling former superhero star who tries to re-ignite his acting career on the stage in a new play. The teaser trailer has now flown in, so take a gander.

Michael Keaton stars as Riggan Thomson, a down-on-his-luck thesp haunted by his days playing the iconic crusader Birdman. His movie star days are well behind him, and now he’s trying to retain his sanity as he deals with troublesome actors, his weird family, his demanding producer and his own ego. The first bit shouldn't be a stretch for Keaton, but we hope that the rest of the set-up is a little further from his own life.

While Iñárritu has made a career out of dealing with more sombre films, Birdman isn’t a wacky comedy, but a conflicted look at one man trying to succeed despite himself.

The director has also gathered Emma Stone, Edward Norton, Zach Galifianakis, Amy Ryan, Andrea Riseborough and Naomi Watts for the film, which reaches the US on October 17 before winging its way over here on January 2, 2015.
